STEP UP: Building Competence, One Skill at a Time

On 4 August 2026, Year 1 and Year 2 Bachelor of Science in Nursing students at JPMC College of Health Sciences (JCHS) participated in STEP UP — Sequential Testing of Efficiency On Practical Utilization of Professional Nursing Skills, a year-end assessment designed to evaluate students’ clinical skills and competence.

The STEP UP assessment provided students with the opportunity to demonstrate the knowledge and practical abilities expected at their respective year levels. Through a series of clinical assessments, students were evaluated on their ability to apply what they had learned throughout the academic year in a practical setting.

The assessment also serves as an important milestone in the students’ academic journey, ensuring that they have achieved the required learning outcomes and developed the necessary competencies before progressing to the next stage of their nursing education.

Through initiatives such as STEP UP, JCHS continues to emphasise the importance of hands-on learning and competency-based education. The assessment reflects the College’s ongoing commitment to developing competent, confident, and practice-ready nursing graduates who are equipped with the knowledge and skills required for their future roles as healthcare professionals
