JCHS Students Advocate for Disability Inclusion at Brunei SDGs Youth Dialogue

On 20 August 2026, JPMC College of Health Sciences (JCHS) highlighted the participation of students Alya Farida Hanani Sulaiman, Sadul Uzma Raibin and Nurfatin Dania Syahirah Siran in the Brunei SDGs Forum: SDGs Beyond Limits and the 3rd SDGs Youth Dialogue, which was held from 10 to 12 August 2026 at An-Naura Hall, Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Complex.

Throughout the three-day programme, the JCHS students participated in group activities, sharing sessions and round-table discussions focused on strengthening disability inclusion in Brunei Darussalam. Working alongside other young participants, they explored the experiences and challenges faced by Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), identified opportunities to promote greater inclusion, and developed practical recommendations for positive change.

The students also contributed to a collaborative drafting workshop for the SDGs Youth Statement: Beyond Limits, Beyond Barriers – Advancing Disability Inclusion through the SDGs. The workshop provided a platform for young people to share their perspectives and propose recommendations aimed at advancing disability inclusion and sustainable development in Brunei Darussalam.

As part of the programme, participants also visited organisations that provide support and services for PWDs. They were divided into groups for visits to the SMARTER B.A.C.A GIFT Centre, Pusat KACA Brunei, the Paraplegic and Physically Handicapped Association (PAPDA), and Pusat Bahagia Tutong. These visits provided valuable exposure to the work being carried out by local organisations to support and empower individuals with disabilities.

On the final day, participants continued refining the SDGs Youth Statement and took part in the “Walk in My Shoes” activity, encouraging greater understanding and awareness of the experiences of PWDs. The programme concluded with the presentation of the Youth Statement during the closing ceremony.

Through their participation, the JCHS students gained a deeper understanding of disability inclusion while contributing their voices, perspectives and ideas towards creating a more inclusive and sustainable Brunei Darussalam. Their involvement reflects the importance of empowering young people to actively contribute to conversations and initiatives that support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and positive change within the community.
