Bachelor of Science in Nursing
JCHS has helped me grow professionally especially in terms of being a nurse by providing hands-on training in school before bringing us out for our attachment at RIPAS, it has given me and insight on how things really work within the hospital and what we can expect once we graduate. On a personal level, JCHS has helped me grow through various efforts of introducing non-academic related activities and seminars.
1. Tell us your full name and what program you are currently taking.
My name is Dk Nur Amalina binti Pg Hj Yussof and I am currently taking the degree program for Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
2. How is it like studying at JCHS?
Studying at JCHS so far has been eventful and I have learnt a lot both as a student and a student leader. However, it does get overwhelming and very busy at times especially towards the end of the semester but overall, I am neutral with regards to my experience studying here.
3. What’s your favorite spot on campus and why?
I don’t really have a favorite spot on campus that I visit often as I spend my spare time often out for lunch or my breaks doing student council work at the office.
4. Although quite recently, what are the things you like about JCHS?
Some of the things I like about JCHS is that they are willing to listen to the troubles and complaints of the student body and attempts to address them. Although yes, the school is quite new, I applaud and appreciate the works that has been put in by everyone to improve it and help its development.
5. Can you share a memorable or funny moment you’ve had at JCHS?
I think some memorable moments I’ve had with my peers here at JCHS is all the times we’ve created a scheme to surprise our lecturers on their birthday. It’s always funny and nice to see the surprise and relief on their faces when they find out the trouble we caused was all just a prank for the sake of a surprise.
6. How do you balance your studies with social activities or hobbies?
For me, I am lucky enough to be surrounded by friends who remind me to take a break from time to time and to just not forget to go out and enjoy life even if it’s just momentary.
7. Who has been your biggest inspiration or mentor at JCHS?
As president of the student council, I have worked closely with Mr. Oliver Brioso, advisor to the student council. Together, alongside the student council, we have worked on developing the student leaders and creating an inclusive environment where the student body are allowed to have a voice and to have fun outside their academics. I always look forward to working with him more in the upcoming future and seeing the student council grow together.
8. What do you do to relax and unwind after a long day of classes?
I often would just buy a cup of coffee from a café after school and stay at home and watch Netflix, or I would hop on a call with my friends and talk or play video games with them.
9. How has JCHS helped you grow personally and professionally?
JCHS has helped me grow professionally especially in terms of being a nurse by providing hands-on training in school before bringing us out for our attachment at RIPAS, it has given me an insight on how things really work within the hospital and what we can expect once we graduate. On a personal level, JCHS has helped me grow through various efforts of introducing non-academic related activities and seminars.
10. What do you hope to achieve at JCHS, and what are your goals and dreams?
My only goals and dreams at JCHS is to graduate as a person who is successful and satisfied with themselves and their time at the college and as the president of the student council, I also hope that my batch of the student council will leave a legacy and will be carried on by great future student leaders.
11. Can you give tips and advice on how you maintain good grades in your studies?
I cannot say anything for certain because everyone has a different way of learning but all I will say is find a comfortable and effective way for you to study. You know yourself best, so you must work with yourself to find something that works for you. And maybe from time to time, remind yourself of why you are doing what you are doing now.
12. Would you recommend your family and friends to enroll in JCHS?
If they have an ambition or passion for nursing or the healthcare field and all that comes with it, then yes. The foundation program is a good gateway into the healthcare field as you cover the basics of human anatomy, microbiology and so on. The degree program also covers the specialties within nursing such as maternal and child nursing, medical surgical nursing and community health nursing.
13. Do you have anything you wish to say to the next Future Healthcare Leaders?
I look forward to welcoming you all into JCHS and together, we will continue to not only develop ourselves as future healthcare leaders but also develop the school to help in combating the shortages of nurses in Brunei Darussalam. I also hope that I will gain new faces and new potentials for the new student leaders of the school!
